I’m passionate about getting kids reading and also representing a diverse range of children in my work. The first five books in the I Can Draw series which I wrote and illustrated for Quarto are now available internationally. Each book contains 15 step-by-step drawing tutorials, teaching a variety of fun characters. Subjects include wild animals, pets, dinosaurs, fairy tales and more. The popular drawing method I’ve developed through years of teaching illustration to kids is based on simple shapes, and allows lots of space for the artist to express themselves. Other recent work includes the creation of characters and drawing tutorial videos for Hackney Libraries.
I illustrate on an iPad using Procreate and an Apple Pencil, and I put my pages together on Photoshop. I sketch and plan on marker paper.
I run popular comics and illustration workshops for schools, SEND settings and other organisations in London and beyond, including Discover Children’s Story Centre, Museum of the Home, Hackney Libraries and the Sharjah International Book Fair. My early career was in fashion design and I’m now a Creative Engagement Librarian, involved with reader development, events and the promotion of the libraries’ activities and resources.
