I have a passion for children’s books which I write and illustrate, and a previous career in fashion design. I’m currently illustrating and writing the text for a series of 10 books for Quarto called ‘I Can Draw…’ for the 4+ age group, consisting of fun characters with step-by-step drawing tutorials so children can create their own versions. Subjects will include animals, vehicles, dinosaurs, fairy tales and much more. The popular drawing method I’ve developed through years of teaching illustration to kids is based on simple shapes, and allows lots of space for the artist to express themselves. Other recent work includes the creation of characters and drawing tutorial videos for a Hackney Libraries social campaign.
Storytelling is always central to my illustration, which is warm, funny, cute and contemporary. Expressive characters of multi ethnicities are very appealing and relatable to children, and perfect for co-editions.
I illustrate on an iPad using Procreate and an Apple Pencil, and I put my pages together on Photoshop. I sketch and plan on marker paper.
I run popular comics and illustration workshops for schools, SEND settings and other organisations in London and beyond, including Imperial College London, Museum of the Home, Hackney Ark and the Sharjah International Book Fair. I have a library background and aim for my stories to promote diversity and encourage a love of reading.
